About me

Watercolorist | Cinematographer (Mexico City)

His artistic trajectory shows how a consolidated career in visual imagery can transmute and be enriched in the field of fine arts. With more than three decades of experience as a professional cinematographer, he possesses an intrinsic knowledge of composition, light, and visual narrative—fundamentals that he now applies with rigor and passion to watercolor. Although his formal immersion in the plastic arts is recent, having begun little more than two years ago, his dedication has been intensive and systematic. Though he is self tought in watercolor, he has actively sought out his technique through in-person workshops with some of the best international watercolorists, including Álvaro Castagnet, Praful Sawant, Liu Xide, Thomas Schaller, David Condori, and Gonzalo Ibáñez. This accelerated, high-level training has allowed him to rapidly develop his own voice within the medium. His work highlights urban and general landscapes, in addition to forays into animal portraiture. With a less conventional vision, he is now exploring Surrealism. This approach allows him to use his work, particularly self-portraiture, as a therapeutic medium and an act of cathartic expression regarding his emotions.

Starting his showcase in the exhibitions circuit as recent as this 2025, he has already generated a constant presence which he considers a motivational driving force:

InAquarello Urbino Festival, Italy 2025

Salon Nacional de la Acuarela 2025 (National Watercolor Saloon 2025 ) by the National Museum of Watercolor (Mex)

Federico Lepe Zúñiga's work represents the confluence of the technical mastery of cinematography and the expressive freedom of water-based painting, making him an artist with solid foundations to continue his path between pigment, light and water.
