The International Watercolor Museum

Welcome to the International Watercolor Museum.
The museum houses a contemporary watercolor collection from 90 countries around the world.
The physical museum, located in Fabriano in the Marche region of Italy, was founded in 2017 to serve as a testament to international relations and aesthetic reciprocity.
A large group of world-renowned masters and artists have shared projects and experiences through the artistic approach of Relational Art in live events.
They have applied the watercolor technique, sometimes pushing its boundaries, always allowing the painting to serve as an interpretive language to better connect with every world culture.
The museum is a bridge that unites all continents by water, natural pigments, and a paper surface.

The International Watercolor Museum...

... is the first Museum in the world dedicated to contemporary international watercolor. It is located in Fabriano, Italy - here this pictorial technique unites with the city's paper-making tradition, a main local excellence since the thirteenth century.

For many years this City in the Marche region hinterland, has worked togeter with the InArte society, to organize many international events dedicated to the world of water painting. These events have hosted a large number of contemporary artists and masters, who now recognize this area as the potential "Capital of Watercolor."

The Museum was thus created to celebrate an artistic experience of international collaboration and aesthetic exchange. It applies Relational Art to events where masters and artists share projects and experiences, apply and evolve the watercolor technique, and use painting as a language to connect with every culture.

Tha Museum houses a very interesting collection that includes both traditional and innovative watercolor paintings from international schools. This collection grows each year through collaborations with many countries around the world.

Serving as a container for works that represent the art of contemporary watercolor, the museum is also an active space for temporary exhibitions, workshops, demonstrations, and conferences for the watercolor community. Its goal is to achieve the greater artistic visibility and also grow a new generation of watercolorists through technical innovation and new creative approaches, aiming for a future that is less traditional, more interesting, and truly innovative."

The museum is structured in 3 sections:
| Cultures from the World |
| Watercolor Subjects |
| Watercolor Styles and Applications |

“Cultures” - features the works by the major international Masters representing the stylistic trends of different geographical areas worldwide. In this section, the video demonstrations by some international masters are also available, showing the application of their techniques.

“Watercolor Subjects” - showcases watercolors divided into thematic categories. These include the subjects typically featured in the art of watercolor, such as: portraits, the human figure, nudes, animals, natural landscapes, waterscapes, urban landscapes, architecture, flowers, still life, and light."

“Watercolor Styles and Applications” - this section showcases a diverse range of artworks, from those demonstrating traditional techniques to innovative pieces that push the boundaries of watercolor. It explores how the medium is used in various fields of applied arts, as well as in experimental and conceptual works.

The exhibit highlights specific techniques, including monochromes, natural and synthetic pigments, mixed media, and glazing. It also features watercolor used in a 'different' way, such as in illustration, Artist's Books, urban sketching, mail art, and relational art events.

In addition, this part of the museum displays works from 'Marche d’Acqua,' a biennial prize co-organized by the Paper and Watermark Museum and 'FabrianoInAquarello,' an annual convention that has become a major worldwide event.
