Ayşe Eylül Sönmez is a Turkish artist and academic working in watercolor, drawing, and visual
culture studies. She holds a BA in Fashion Design Education from Gazi University and an MA in
Art Education, completed with the thesis “Mass Culture and the Transformation of the Artistic
Image.”
Her work has been featured in exhibitions, workshops, and biennials in Turkey and abroad,
including her first solo exhibition at Kelimat Art Gallery in Istanbul in 2020. She has taught
watercolor and charcoal drawing to international students under the Presidency for Turks Abroad
and Related Communities (YTB), curating several student exhibitions as part of the program.
Sönmez’s works appeared in “A Watercolour a Day: 365 Tips and Ideas for Improving Your Skills
and Creativity” (Promopress, 2018). She is a member of GESAM and the International Watercolor
Society (IWS). She currently teaches in the Fashion Design Department and continues to produce
and exhibit her work in her studio.
