About me
Shyong Ang is a self-taught artist based in Penang, Malaysia. His practice focuses on observation, memory, and everyday scenes drawn from local architecture, street life, and quiet moments of solitude. Rather than following traditional transparent watercolor techniques, he works with opaque water-based media, acrylic, and mixed media in a more painterly approach.
He is interested in the balance between realism and personal perception, allowing process, hesitation, and emotional traces to remain visible in the work. Through painting and drawing, he seeks to convey not only what is seen, but how a place or moment is experienced.
