About me

The signature Eth de Melaou used by the painter Didier DUBARRY intrigues and provokes questions. It was chosen by the artist to pay homage discreetly and poignantly to his Gascon origins and roots in the foothills of the Pyrénées. Mélaou is the name of the house where he grew up, and according to local tradition a person is always known by the name of the place which has sheltered him. Didier is therefore quite naturally known as Eth de Mélaou or ‘someone from Mélaou’.

After studying Architecture, which he practised professionally for about twelve years, he turned to teaching and finished his career in National Education as a teacher of Applied Arts. Since 1994 he has exhibited regularly in many places. He is president of ‘l’Amicale des Arts de Séméac’ and vice-president of ‘Les Amis des Arts de Tarbes et de la Bigorre’.

The sharp and watchful, but always benevolent eye of Eth de Mélaou gives him the ability to observe and perceive his fellow humans in the world which surrounds them.He has exhibited at numerous exhibitions or ‘Salons d’Art’ in France and abroad in which he has often held creative activities for the visitors. Didier has won more than eighty awards throughout France and his paintings are part of private collections in France, Germany, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Spain and the United States.

Eth de Mélaou remains receptive to all new artistic adventure.
