Naseema Barday is a South African painter living in Cape Town, a full-time medical practitioner with a busy professional career and mother of four grown children. She makes deliberate effort to paint afterhours because she finds that it helps her balance the stress of her work, while she loses herself in colours and brushes, while relating places and memories that have spoken to her.
Her analytical skills reflect in her style and also result in her being critical of her own work – all part of her journey of forever learning.
She has exhibited locally and sold several of her works, which hang in homes from Cape Town to Amsterdam.
Her submission this year is called Introspection, a painting of Kolga Manor, Estonia, depicting a large waiting room and doorways looking one through the next. The ravages of time have eroded the dilapidated old once grand manor, and its begs one to look through the doors of the past and all who have passed through them, and to consider what is left all our vanities and struggles as humans.
It has always intrigued her picking up the trail of human passing, and finding the clues to the past.
