LIN SOULIERE CSPWC, CFS
I work in watercolour, both on rag paper and on prepared canvas. Currently I am working on a series studying old growth trees, ancient forests, rock and water. I have travelled to the west coast and studied the old growth cedars and redwoods in both Canada and California. I live on the Bruce Peninsula along the Georgian Bay shoreline where limestone cliffs and turquoise water are a constant source of inspiration. This landscape has provided reference for many paintings of ancient rock and 500 year old stunted cedar trees that cling to the cliffs. We also go on long camping/painting trips to Algonquin Park and other wilderness parks to collect reference. I live and work at Dragonfly Ridge Studio, a home and studio my husband and I built in the forest. We have lived here over 25 years.
Watercolour has been my main medium for over 40 years. Its transparent nature, luscious colours and ability to allow light to glow through it has made it exciting to work with. I have been paintng on wc prepared gallery canvas and love the deep colours and immediate brushstrokes it provides. I use a combination of Winsor Newton, Daniel Smith and Q0R brand watercolour.
My Escarpment Spirit Series began 25 years ago when we moved to the Bruce Peninsula. Hiking and sketching in the forest here, connecting with the spirit of the land, trees and water, has influenced my work. We live in harmony with nature, with black bears, many wild critters and birds, weather that can sometimes challenge us in winter, and beautiful natural surroundings in green spring, golden autumn and hot summers. The waters of Georgian Bay are very deep, and stay turquoise year round.
Over the years I taught watercolour classes and workshops in Ontario, and France, Italy and Portugal. I participate in many juried exhibits both local and international.
