Julian Bruere
A career as a freelance artist in advetising, publishing and animation before eventually becoming a watercolour teacher, which is what I have done a lot of in the last 15 years. I have appreciated being able to paint the scenes that interest me most, Alpine Snowgums, Landscape, Portaiture, Seascapes and Historical Marine.
With my oil painting wife Mary Hyde I have travelled and painted in Europe 2011, New Zealand 2014 and then England in 2017 for the enjoyment of painting together and painting the difference. The importance and insights found when painting the same subjects with another quality artist can't be denied, particularly when we both paint with different mediums. I exhibited and demonstrated my work in China and Taiwan in 2016 and 2019. Julian Bruere paintings have been seen previously in Fabriano in 2019 and the covidian interupted years of 2020/21.
In Melbourne, my time is spent painting, teaching, demonstrating, judging and maintaining an involvement with the Victorian Artists' Society. I have been awarded the VAS Artist of the Year in 2010, 2013 and 2018, the ANL Traditional Maritime Award 2009 and 2016, The Kenneth Jack memorial Award 2010 and 2016. I am a member of The Australian Watercolour Institute and the Victorian Vice President of the Australian Society of Marine Artists.
