I have always been an artist at heart, enchanted by nature, flowers, humans and animals. My name is Dani Aleixo, a Brazilian artist based in Brasilia, Brazil.
I work with watercolors, gouache and oils, but my main interest are flowers painted in watercolor. Flowers arrangements, Ikebanas have always drawn my interests. Through the flowers, I see poetry, lightness, transparency. Flowers bloomings give us a sense of ephemeral beauty.
People used to say that I had what the Indians call “the third eye”, a high sensitivity and a natural intuition that life should be regarded as a gift.
At first, this natural inclination “to be amazed by all things" was reflected in written poetry. Facts of everyday life, be it a cat sleeping, a toddler walking, a flower blooming were never ordinary facts to me they were events full of meaning and interpretation.
Later in life, in my forties, I came to this sort of epiphany or “Eureka moment” that the feelings that populated my inner being could be attempted to be translated not only by the words of a poem or prose, but also through painting.
Painting is for me a visual poetry, since it captures the ineffable. Sometimes words alone cannot describe feelings that a painting does.
Besides being a visual poetry, a painting is also a testimonial, a beautiful way to re-enact the past, bringing alive special moments.
