Andrew Sookrah is a raw colourist whose free brushwork is confident and powerful.
His strengths can be seen in his strong sense of design, exquisite use of effective composition,
confident presentation of bold colours… and in his figurative and portraiture work,
his capturing the raw essence of the human spirit.
His is a masterful expression of the unity of nature as shown in his passion for the Canadian landscape.
He has travelled extensively across Canada to paint, from the Arctic / Yukon in the north, Pelee Island to the south, Haida Gwaii in the west, to Newfoundland / Maritimes in the east.
He is also currently working on an urban street scene series as well as Algonquin Park.
Andrew works and teaches in different media and has been painting in watercolours since 1979; in some ways this was his first love for creative expression. Since then, he has painted over 500 w/c pieces (sketches and finished work), including landscape (in studio as well as en plein air), figurative and portrait (in the Third Floor Studio of the Arts & And Letters Club Of Toronto. He has done watercolour demos for various arts groups. He is blessed to have been able to peint en plen air in Newfoundland, Haida Gwaii, The Northwest Territories, Nova Scotia, PEI, Ontario, BC
He was one of the contestants in the finals of Landscape Artists Of The Year Canada Competition;
