About me

I'm a watercolorist (mainly working on commissions) born in Portugal and living in Lisbon.

Freelance scientific, Nature and children's illustrator.

I've always shown a great passion for Nature and drawing, and have been drawing ever since I can remember.

Although my academic path led me to Biology, after I finished my graduation in 2003, I attended a Scientific illustration course, which quickly gave me the opportunity to illustrate a book about portuguese carnivore mamals entitled "Um Olhar sobre os Mamíferos Carnívoros", with 28 charcoal and digital illustrations.

But no other media has challenged me as much as watercolor. I've been evolving and perfecting it, and I still have so much to practice - it's my personal endeavour!

I love the way all the brush strokes and watercolor layers have a timing and a controlled sequence which cannot be undone. If only we could do that with our own lives.

Portuguese people have always had a natural connection with the Sea, that's why I often paint seascapes and maritime themes. When I was a teenager, no other book inspired me as much as "Johnathan Livingston Seagull" - a story about a seagull learning to fly, achieving freedom of mind and perfecting one's skills. In the same way Watercolor is a big part of my life journey.

My painting is called "Intertidal" and is an image of the Praia da Ursa (transl. Lady Bear Beach), near Sintra, Portugal.
