About me
"Christmas Delight" happened from a class demonstration. My tips to the class was to let the brush find its own way & it even surpised me on some of the effects & colour infusion that were simply magic; but that is watercolour afterall.
I am a Toowoomba , Queensland watercolourist deriving from every conceivable influences and real world experience, shaping & determining my ideas and perspective. Readily admit to having multiple paintings in my head at any one time jostling for dominance. That same duality or profusion prevailed in my early learning years despite an inner battle with practical life on one side & the arts pulling at the other. The dye was cast however & threaded through his work is the strong learned ideas of tone over emotion, with the occasional flights into dreaming. My focus has evolved into expanding the interaction of light.
I have had a pedigree of learning with world renowned Australian & overseas artist & have obtained University qualification in 2022 but it is teaching that makes me a better artist. Subjects can be anywhere in or outside the box, take any form or shape as long as they are linked with a sense of light & reveal underlying stories transcending the postcard. We are all prisoners of time & for years my work was bound to the studio working off hastily taken photos. Today, my preferred process is work from life, looking for light & storyline, returning to fine polish in the studio before calling the work at an end.
I have a belief in the workshop of ten thousand hours & while potential is great, you must put work & application to the task to be the best you and simply not a copy of someone else. As somebody once said"thinking about ploghing does not get the field done'.
