Ping Shen was born in Beijing, China in 1947. He had lived in Shanghai and Xinjiang before he moved to Hong Kong in 1980. He is a versatile artist excelling in watercolour, oil and Chinese ink painting. Hong Kong and Xinjiang are the two places he loved most. Many of his works are reminiscent of the pristine landscape, the guileless people and hardy animals of Xinjiang. Another recurent motif of his art is Hong Kong, be it the glamour of the bustling city with myriad skyscrapers, trams and ferries, or the worn-out and often neglected corners where people are striving for a living. Apart from being a prolific artist, Shen has dedicated himself to teaching and promoting art Hong Kong.
