Allan Butt is an award-winning artist who maintains his studio in Concord, North Carolina. His paintings can be found in many private and corporate collections in the United States and in Europe.
Allan became interested in painting after graduating from high school. His vision to use art as a means of expressing his point of view about life began when he painted his first work of art using the medium of oil. He then transitioned to watercolor, buying books and materials in his quest to teach himself how to paint. After spending years teaching himself how to paint, he attended Mobile College (now The University of Mobile) in Mobile, Alabama, where he majored in art, (at the prompting of the chair of the art department-Mac Clark) and psychology. He graduated in 1985 and was also a member of Psi Chi, the National Honor Society for psychology majors.
After graduating from college, he began intensive self-study in fine art, focusing on the techniques of early American masters such as Winslow Homer, John Singer Sargent, Edward Hopper, and Andrew Wyeth. He developed his own individualized style based on his expertise using color, composition, and contrast.
His work has been juried into national and international exhibitions and it has been shown in numerous group and one person shows. He serves as President of the Watercolor Society of North Carolina. He is a signature member of the Watercolor Society of North Carolina and the Georgia Watercolor Society. He is a member of the Illinois Watercolor Society, the Southern Watercolor Society, the Watercolor Society of Alabama, the Pennsylvania Watercolor Society and an associate member of the National Watercolor Society and the American Watercolor Society.
