Laura Esperanza Rios (b. 1957) a Mexican visual artist. With a versatile background in various artistic media, she now primarily works in watercolor, a medium she has embraced after exploring oil painting, pastels, colored and graphite pencils, pen and ink. Portraiture is central to her practice, where she seeks to capture the nuances of emotion found in everyday life.
Laura holds a Bachelor’s degree in Fashion Design, where her interest in figure drawing evolved into a passion for anatomy studies and artistic representation. She began formal training in oil painting in 2011 under the guidance of a local artist, and her dedication to developing her craft led her to enroll in Artefacto Online Art School in 2022.
Her travels have further expanded her artistic vision, inspiring her to explore architectural landscapes and integrate human figures within them. Through watercolor, Rios has come to appreciate the delicate balance between spontaneity and control, a lesson she carries into both her art and life. Working with watercolor has been an incredibly freeing experience.
The artist learned to let go by working with the fluid medium, allowing water and pigment to flow naturally. This improved her technique and helped her release control in other aspects of life.
Rios has participated in numerous local exhibitions and, more recently, in prestigious international events. Notable 2025 exhibitions include:
2nd Annual “Watercolor Golden Brush”, International Exhibition Competition – France
2nd Quindao International Watercolor Festival – China
