I am Jukka Salo, a visual and media artist from Kotka and currently working in Lahti.
Starting point: Actually, my starting point has always been an observation,
an experience or a feeling. Nature and especially
the sea have been special inspirations,
Watercolor is a very natural medium for me and it is my main medium.
Other media such as carbon, graphite, acrylic have joined
later up to electronic image processing and video.
I have actively maintained my drawing skills in life model courses at civic colleges.
The stylistic direction of my work moves somewhat along the axis of realism-naturalism.
Philosophy of making: Painting is a tool for me to find, see and even understand things...maybe
it should be said to live that beauty that is close to each of us. When painting, I have to
especially to look and see. As a result, I have discovered brand new ones
dimensions even from everyday things. Art and painting is a happy thing to do
I draw energy while enjoying what I'm doing. There is a message in my work that usually
is not political and doesn't take a drastic stand, it's about noticing small things,
realizing the beauty of the things around us.
My message to others is simple: see and experience beautiful things, preserve and
cherish what is good.
I feel that I have succeeded if I notice that my work brings joy to the eyes of the viewer or
a smile on the corner of the mouth, to bring a good feeling or to evoke a pleasant memory.
