My philosophy is rooted in the law of energy conservation, which states that energy can neither be created nor destroyed, only transformed. Through my paintings, I aim to transform the physical energy I use and feel into emotional energy that my viewers can experience. I want them to feel the energy of each brushstroke, each color mix, and the joy of it all coming together. My goal is to lift emotions and evoke feelings of elation, serenity, and peace.
I love painting still life, particularly teacups, ginger jars, and florals. These objects often appear in my work, captured through the medium of watercolor. This allows me to blend soft washes with fine detail, bold brushstrokes with gentle colors. I enjoy depicting patterns and sometimes use gold leaf or ink to enhance them.
I began taking part time art lessons over a decade ago. What started as a leisurely activity has become a necessity, a vital part of my life.
I've been fortunate to be tutored by renowned South African artists through weekly lessons and workshops. My quest for self-learning continues. My art reflects the beauty of life as I see and experience it, capturing moments to be eternalized. I aim to document the present beauty for future generations, amidst a rapidly changing world.
Creating art brings me immense joy and fulfillment. I thrive on the process, from the initial blank canvas to the finished piece. While I primarily work with watercolor, I'm fairly versatile in other media like oil, pastels, colored pencils, pen and ink, and mixed media. My compositions aim to exude happiness and joy, with a bold yet realistic use of color.
The spontaneity and immediacy of watercolor draw me to this medium, allowing me to depict the delicacy and light of my subjects. I plan my paintings but also embrace the evolving nature of watercolor.
